Computer-based simulation can be described as “an online re-creation of a
real business environment for the purposes of learning”. Users learn by doing,
discovering and applying their experience in a highly interactive, risk-free
and fun environment, and gain feedback on their performance. It is a powerful
way for participants to consolidate their learning.
HRCgroup have at their disposal a number of computer-based business simulations.
We also have over twenty years of experience in developing customised computer-based
simulations for clients.
Computer-based simulations are an effective action-learning approach to learning
as they can:
- anchor an initiative or new business process throughout an
organisation, in a way that is fast, consistent, and compelling
- structure
the experience to users’ profiles, eg by industry, initiative, role,
function, team, etc
- give users access to information on the intranet
or internet
- integrate local and global communities to enable collaboration,
interaction, feedback and support from peers, experts and coaches
- access
other online performance support
- monitor performance to gauge how
well a team, unit or organisation is adhering to a new initiative
or process
Three options for the use of simulation are available:
- a custom-built capstone
simulation reflecting the unique and specific dynamics within your
organisation and the skills and competencies to be developed. New
technology and platforms allow these simulations to be delivered
as part of a training event or in a virtual environment
- customisation of an existing simulation
to reflect the targeted skills and competencies to be developed
- use of an existing simulation that closely supports the skills
and competencies to be developed
Computer-based simulations are powerful and enjoyable tools delivering targeted
and timely feedback on how well participants are integrating and demonstrating
the use of the skills and competencies they are developing.
